Well, that is it, it is time for me to move on to pastures new. I have really loved my time up at Guys. There have been so many high lights in the 5 years I have been there. I will really miss all your visits, I will miss the pressure of the big events, honestly I will.
Throughtout my tenure, the site changed so much, this was not my doing, but was driven by a committed and passionate managment team, I was just there to try and achieve their dreams, I think we succeeded, on the whole. I am confident that, when we come through the current difficulties, the next incumbent will be able to drive the site on to further developement.
I would like to thank Deryck, Dawn, Elaine and Jackie for giving me chance to prove myself. It was a huge confidence boost for me. I had never really been an emplyee before, having run the family firm for nearly 30 years before. They made the job interesting, varied, challenging and rewarding. Between us, we increased the activites the site has to offer, we vastly increased the number of camping visits to site. The increase in activites, along with the addition of the pizza oven, developed a takeup in evening visits. A further string to our bow, was to increase the number of DofE groups, this meant lots of juggling of bookings at busy weekends, but it meant a lovely busy vibrant site. The addition of the ponds, sorry Elaine, Lake, really propelled the site forward. Evening bookings shot up, a lot of groups, many from Scouting, would use the water and pizzas as a good vehicle for full family evenings, so good to see.
The instructing of the activites, especially the climbing, have been a real passion of mine; the beam on a childs face at the bottom of the absiel, after they had been initially petrified at the top, really made my weekends. The feeling is so good, that, with Tracye's full agreement, I am going to keep on on the instructing side. So it is good bye, but only until I am back on the Tower.
I would also like to acknowledge the amount of help I have had from my family. Trace has been so supportive over the years, without her tolerence, I don't think I could have offered half as much to the site. My parents spent so much time on site, moving beds, cleaning toilets, moving flags, all for the price of a free lunch. Then there is my brothers, David, all ways there to help with plumbing, then the others for the little projects, like building a log cabin in a day and a half, all for the price of a free lunch, it is so easy to bribe a Greene!
Last, I would like to thank all of you, the leaders, the members of the friends, the supporters, who have made my job so rewarding and for your genorosity in my leaving gift and in all the kind texts, emails and facebook comments.
